Guitarra y Voz / Voz e Violão

H.J. Anderson is a PNW-born singer, songwriter, guitarist & recording artist based in the greater Seattle area. A lifelong fan of music in all its forms, he's particularly drawn to the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world's colorful palette of musical expression, especially Bossa-Nova style guitar accompanying solo voice. In this context he enjoys crafting original songs and performing them alongside classics of the genre in small music venues.

Beyond the local performances, Anderson has devoted many years to slow-travel and living abroad - studying music and language, performing and recording, and wholeheartedly embracing the cultures & people of Latin America and Spain. From busking in Barcelona's gritty casco antiguo to singing in the teterías of Granada's ancient Albaicín quarter; performing at the breezy book cafes of Mexico's Isla Mujeres or at the alternative community-arts venues in downtown Buenos Aires; songwriting sessions in off-grid communities outside Florianópolis, Brazil, and serenading newlyweds in Costa Rica's jungle hotels and Miami's opulent Vizcaya Gardens - and of course performing with thunderous Brazilian-style percussion troupes around Seattle. All these experiences and more have shaped his unique musical sensibilities, which he loves sharing with audiences.

H.J. Anderson has a self-produced studio album out that continues to garner positive reviews from listeners. In addition to creating all the arrangements, singing all vocal parts, playing most of the guitars and even the cuica (a traditional Brazilian friction drum), he was also joined by some highly accomplished musicians for additional tracking including Tim Carey on bass, Jeff Busch on drums & percussion, Marc Hager on piano, Darrius Willrich on Hammond B3, Tony Grasso on trumpet, Tyson Hussey and Jeffrey Thomas on guitars, Gino d'Ignazio on saxophone, Dinho Costa on cavaquinho, Phil Henderson on trombone and Perle Deutch Shadpour on French spoken-word vocals. The album, titled "Sol y Homenajes," pays tribute to some of his favorite musical compositions and has received airplay on PNW public radio.
